Tour de Peak District Accommodation

April 2021: Coronavirus Update:

The lockdown is easing and we are now allowed to travel once again! Yay!!!

Although please bear in mind that even now the rules keep changing quickly – what I write today may be out of date by tomorrow…

But as of today (April 12 2021) travel within England is now a real possibility with overnight stays permitted in self-contained accomodation with just members of your household/support bubble. It’s not quite a holiday with your mates yet, but multi-day trips like the Tour de Peak District are once again becoming possible – with planning.

Take all the usual precautions – that you and your bike are in reasonable working enough order, that you have enough kit to cope with an accident or mechanicals or even just from discovering part-way round that it’s tougher than you thought! And do plenty of research to check beforehand that any cafes, pubs or accomodation that you may need to rely on are indeed now open and can take your business!

And of course – don’t ride if you feel unwell. But otherwise have a fab ride and make the most of the freedom we have to exercise further afield now, and enjoy all the health benefits (mental as well as physical) that riding brings!

August 2019: Whaley Bridge/Toddbrook Dam damage

The Toddbrook dam was severely damaged by floodwater after very heavy rain early in August 2019 and threatened to collapse with extreme risk to life if it had failed. TdPD and other routes in the Cycling in the Peak District guidebook are thought to be unaffected as a result of this incident, but as ever if you come across something on the ground, please let my publishers at Cicerone Press know. Dam repairs may take up to 3 years to complete, so it may be worth paying attention to Derbyshire roadworks info in case roads have to be shut during this time to facilitate repairs.

This page lists accommodation within a reasonable distance of the Tour de Peak District cycle route.

At the moment it is not a “recommended” list of particularly cycle friendly accommodation as such (although where I am aware of an establishment being cycle friendly I will try and mention this in the description). Rather, it’s a list of places reasonably near the route. NB In the north-east section, some of the nearest available accommodation I’m aware of is some distance from the route – but hopefully including them is still useful for route planning!

If you stay at any of these locations, please mention that you found them here. I’d also really appreciate any feedback as to whether any individual place is good or bad for cyclists as that helps us all 🙂
