Patterns are everywhere in the landscape, from tree rings to mossy shapes on boulders, rows of trees in semi-regular lines to drystone walls reaching into the distance. This photo-trail encourages you to focus in on the many patterns nature creates and learn to think more abstractly about some of the images you can make.
Based in woodlands near Hathersage, you will have a fantastic array of silver birch trees, abandoned millstones, and even a “photographer’s dead tree”to play with. We will teach you how to use natural objects to act as a frame to other objects in the composition, how to use depth of field to maximum effect (including how to selectively blur out the background to emphasise the foreground).
Depending on conditions,we may show how motion of leaves and branches can be combined with static subjects such as millstones to emphasise windy conditions to best effect,or we may get up close and personal to individual buds and leaves in calmer conditions.
