Derbyshire is a wonderful county of contrasts, from leafy-lined streams in limestone dales to bleak harsh gritstone moorland. From orchids to rhododendrons to hay meadows and even low-flying curlews. From sailing reservoirs to deep black peat bog. From tiny tumbling streams to huge waterfalls surprisingly near urban centres –Derbyshire and the Peak District offer a great variety of views. And we offer a variety of options for those with more or less time to spare. Our day-long tours involve more walking than our half day tours, but are still suitable for those with only a moderate level of fitness –the main aim of the day is to enjoy and learn more about photography, rather than cover lots of miles! And for those that want a longer trip,we can arrange photo holidays where we advise on good bases to stay and meet you at some stunning locations over the course of a few days. Perhaps the best way to describe our photo trails, whether long or short,is that they involve walking with your camera in the company of a friendly, approachable and award-winning photographer and a small number of other like-minded folk. (1:1 is also available).
Some of our most popular trips include:
- Derbyshire Gritstone Trails –along or round one or more of the famous moorland edges, with loads of amazing rock formations for awesome foregrounds
- Derbyshire Limestone Trails –along one of the famous “white”limestone valleys
- Derbyshire Waterfalls and Giddy Heights –based near Matlock, but still providing some amazing views in the most unlikely of locations!
- Derbyshire Bluebells –this is a short 2hr special when the bluebells are out –usually in May
- Derbyshire Orchids (and other summer flowers) –also seasonal –usually available end May-June
- Derbyshire Poppies –seasonal –usually June
- Reflections and dales –millponds and limestone dales
- Derbyshire Patterns –“Can you see the wood for the trees?”–abandoned millstones, patterns and composition in nature
Costs start from just £25 per person for bluebell trips, most others are roughly £50-85 per person, but please note minimum numbers (usually 3/4) are needed to make them viable.
If numbers aren’t available for any particular trip on the dates you require,we’re more than happy to arrange 1:1 or very small group tuition, but obviously these may cost more per person (typically £150-£200 per day, shared between all participants).
Or if you’re thinking of going further afield –have you considered our Sierra Nevada Photo Holidays? These run in conjunction with Spanish Highs –the leading trekking company in the Spanish Sierra Nevada. This is a trip report from Kiersten from Spanish Highs when Chiz gave her a week’s tuition in trade for being her chauffeur and location finder!
For more info or to book, please see our FAQ. When enquiring, please mention which trip you’re interested in,where you are currently at with your photography and what you would like to get from the day (if no groups trips are currently listed, please give a couple of preferred dates and we’ll try and accommodate your wishes!).
