Many of our clients come to us after their partner purchases them a day of photography as a present, and no,an SLR camera is not essential. Although you won’t be able to do certain things without one (such as easily blur out the background),we can teach composition and “seeing the image” whatever sort of camera you have (and compacts can be surprisingly good for macro photography!) The new type of Compact System Camera is also fine too –and is usually far better than a compact, for little more weight. But please do bring the manual –it helps a lot when trying to explain what individual buttons do on the trail as no camera is identical and some compacts use different names or symbols for common settings!
Two hour bluebell and orchid photowalks
Spring-time in Derbyshire is a wonderful season, the air is fresh, the trees are beginning to come into leaf, flowers are beginning to bloom, and the cold, dark and often grey days of winter now seem long behind us. If you’ve ever wanted to know more about how to photograph tricky subjects like bluebells and orchids, come and join us on a small group (occasionally as small a group as a single client!) photowalk in the Derbyshire woods (bluebells) or Peak District limestone Dales (orchids) for a couple of hours.
Costs are extremely affordable:
- just £25 per person for bluebell walks (woods just north of Derby)
- or £35 per person (bluebells walks using woods further away from Derby and orchid walks).
How can we keep the £25 rate going? Where possible for the bluebells walks,Chiz uses a wood so close to her home that she can walk to it –keeping vehicle costs out of the equation!
Derbyshire Days Out –for both beginners and more advanced enthusiasts.
Derbyshire Days Out are ideal for any photographer who is keen on outdoors photography, especially landscape photography,or for the walker who only takes photographs occasionally, but who would like to learn more about how to get the most out of their camera. We use a variety of locations in the Derwent Valley Heritage Corridor and Peak District, and can find good settings for limestone valleys, flowing water, gritstone outcrops,Peak District “Edges”,wild moorland, waterfalls and woodland. These tend to be 1:1 sessions and are consequently more expensive, but if you can get a group of up to 4 people together we’re more than happy for you to share the 1:1 cost between yourselves.
Cost:£200 per day (total for 1-4 participants),for larger groups please get in touch direct. Includes all tuition and any entrance fees, but participants should either bring a packed lunch and drink (or allow for a pub/cafe lunch if applicable). Public transport is rarely needed as part of the course, but where required, short train/bus rides are also included within the price.

Just a short-haul flight by budget airline away, the sunsets are awesome, and the tapas very enjoyable! These are holidays with a difference –not only do you get to see some stunning scenery, relax in the laid-back white-washed villages enjoying the beer and tapas, and meet some great people, but you also learn (or improve) your creative photographic skills.
